Project brief: Communicate an idea from contemporary science using physical computing.
Our Field of Study: Biofeedback
Description:
Our physical computing project titled “Emotional Pinocchio” or “Emocchio” is based on the concept that in situations of stress, our skin releases more sweat thereby increasing its conductivity. We are measuring this skin conductance with a Galvanic sensor made from Arduino, and determining how stressed the individual is. To induce stress to a user, we tell them that our setup is a lie detector test and then ask questions that will be uncomfortable to answer. We then visually represent the sudden increase of stress by increasing the length of the shadow of the user’s nose - taking inspiration from Disney's Pinocchio.
